Our Mission
The mission, core values and ethics of Lagos State Schools of Nursing and Midwifery Alumni International Association (LSSNMAIA) are to promote the role of nursing and midwifery in the health care system and in society. In particular, it helps link alumni to students and faculty of the school and furthers fellowship among its alumni.
The LSSNMAIA works in partnership with alumni of Lagos State Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (LSSNM), Lagos College of Nursing (LASCONM) and Lagos State University College of Nursing - LASUCON in its Development and Alumni Affairs Office to encourage all alumni to connect with the LSSNMAIA through programs and services that addresses the needs of its members
Our Story
Summary
Lagos State Schools of Nursing and Midwifery Alumni International Association - LSSNMAIA. Launched in the London UK on 4:6: 2001 to support alumni. In 2012, LSSNMAIA became a global organisation open to all graduates of Lagos States School of Nursing (LSSNMIA) Worldwide. In 2017, LSSNMAIA’s vision and mission statement was submitted to the Lagos State Ministry of Health as per protocol for approval. LSSNMAIA was approved and launched in Lagos to become the main chapter in Nigeria.
Following its approval, LSSNMAIA received support of many including the following leaders - DNS MOH, Mrs. Dorcas Shonibare, and Dr J. Idris, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health. The Provost of Lagos State College of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health Nursing Mrs Oyefunso Orenuga and other Nursing and Midwifery leaders and educators; and representative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Nigeria.
The Chairman of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives Lagos State, Mr Julius Awojide, and all Lagos State Nurses and Midwives present, also showed their support. We invited many healthcare organisations, nursing groups, allied health and social care professionals, and nurses in diaspora to embraced LSSNMAIA Give-back Programs.
Lady Sogunro-Koko also made a presentation on Interprofessional Collaboration to the leadership of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria and submitted written proposal to the Nigerian medical Association and recruited Affiliate members who now support LLSNMAIA Board. The Ministry of Information provided publicity. We had an engaging and informative call-in question time with members of the public at Lagos Traffic Radio. both approved
The 2017 introduction seminar and workshop took place and our vision and mission were presented to and explored with delegates who attended from all over Nigeria. Seminar was interactive on many topics, including feedback from the radio show. Nursing leaders and junior nurses explored current crisis in patient-nurses relationship, and interprofessional relationships. During this period, LOC Committees teams were confirmed.
Mentorship workshop was delivered, and lacking mentorship program was established. Feedback was very positive. A biannual program was agreed. In 2019 the Annual General Meeting, a resolution was passed and carried by a unanimously and LSSNMAIA became the umbrella body for all Lagos State Trained Nurses and Midwives. We encourage Alumni members in Nigeria and in diaspora develop or launch their regional chapters.
We encourage you to join LSSNMAIA LOC Management, Committees and Non-executive and Executive Board. Help set up local networking group. LSSNMAIA is a non-profit membership organisation. LSSNMAIA invites LSSNM alumni to join us in achieving our mission. We welcome new nurses and midwives to register to stay connected as they commence their career after graduating from Lagos State School of Nursing and Midwifery.
