The Logos Library Summer Reading Program is here!

Did you know that children who read over the summer are better prepared for the coming school year and are less likely to experience the ‘summer slide’—the loss of reading and learning skills that often happens during the summer break? Reading during the summer months really does make a difference to your child’s learning!
Here’s how the Logos Library Summer Reading Program works:

Grade 1 & 2 students will receive Summer Bingo sheets to complete. For each Bingo Sheet completed, they win a prize! The sheets went home Monday, May 27. Replacement bingo sheets can be downloaded from the school website under ‘Links’ in the upper right hand corner of the Home Page.

Grade 3 thru 5 students will receive a Calendar Reading Log for June & July. Replacement reading logs can be downloaded from the school website under ‘Links’ in the upper right hand corner of the Home Page. Students earn a prize for each monthly reading log they turn in! However, In order to earn a prize for a particular month, students must read a minimum of 350 minutes. Reading Logs went home on Monday, May 27.

Grade 6 thru 11 students will be emailed a Reading Log. This reading log can also be found on the school website under ‘Links’ in the upper right hand corner of the Home Page. Depending on how many minutes they read, secondary students have an opportunity to earn a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum level prize!
More logs are available by going to the school website.

It is time for Goodbye…

It is with mixed emotions that I say goodbye to four incredible years at Logos. God has called me to another Librarian position at an International Christian School in Taipei. I will really miss all of the wonderful students and parents that I have gotten to know throughout my time here. My email at my new school is cindy.ralph@mca.org.tw. Feel free to drop me a line to tell me about a new favourite book or send me an email just to say ‘Hi’!
Mrs. Ralph

Have a great summer!

A Note from School Nurse

Summer Time
It has been a privilege to serve our Logos community this past year. Like you, I too am looking forward to a fun-filled and relaxing summer break. Spending time with my children is a highlight of the summer break but also a challenge. What do I do with them all day long? What do I feed them? What activities can they participate in without emptying my wallet every week? Here is a great link for some fun family summer ideas:
https://www.cdc.gov/family/kids/summer/

Also I am reposting the link to the cooking as a family link Recipes-for-kids.

May you all take time to seek the Lord and His plan for your family this summer!

A Note from School Nurse

Finishing Well

Welcome back from our week long New Year celebrations! We’ve got 6 weeks till summer break with rolling electrical blackouts and heat. The heat brings a new set of childhood illnesses. Common at this time of year is Hand Foot and Mouth, Chicken Pox and Respiratory Infections ( Communicable Disease Policy). If you click on each of these illness you can find the Logos school policy for each disease.

At Logos, we regularly clean and disinfect our toys and classroom touch points. Good handwashing techniques are also important. We have ice available in coolers on every floor to help keep our students and staff cool while our generators are running. Thank you Parents for reinforcing good handwashing techniques at home and reminding the children to drink more water. Together we can have a fun and successful end of the school year!

School Closure

As you know, Logos is closed today, Wednesday, April 10. All classes were canceled.

The heat and frequent power changes caused one of the main wires connecting the Logos building to the state power supply to overheat and break. This was a serious issue, and the repair needed to happen immediately to prevent a fire. Classes are scheduled to resume as normal on Thursday, April 11.
Thank you, everyone, for your positive response. Our primary means of contacting everyone is through email, with social media as a back-up. We were successful in reaching the vast majority of our families. If for some reason you did not receive the notice via email, we apologize and suggest that you may need to update your contact information with the office.

Thank you.

A Note from Nurse

How to survive the New Year Heat!

We are all excited about the New Year Holiday! I hear many of the students talking about travel plans and holiday activities. During your planning please remember your children are used to being in Air Conditioning during the school hours, so expecting them to handle the heat of your family village or parent’s home without air conditioning might be more than they can handle. And if you’re not traveling, but remaining home the principle is the same, prevention.

Heat-related death or illnesses are preventable if you follow a few simple steps:
Stay in an air-conditioned area during the hottest hours of the day. If you don’t have air conditioning in your home, go to a public place such as a shopping mall or a grocery store to stay cool. Wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Drink water often. Don’t wait until you are thirsty. Avoid unnecessary hard work or activities if you are outside or in a building without air-conditioning. Avoid unnecessary sun exposure. When in the sun, wear a hat, preferably with a wide brim. Air conditioning is the strongest protective factor against heat-related illness. Exposure to air conditioning for even a few hours a day will reduce the risk for heat-related illness. CDC guidelines for extreme heat

Please put a sachet of rehydration powder in your children’s backpack like Royal D that is easily available at grocery stores and Cambodian Pharmacy. A whole box of Royal D which contains 50 packets cost around $7.00. Encourage your children to drink more water and use ice in their bottles to help them cool down while at school. We look forward to an active and fun last two months of classes!

Students put in a lot of practice to get ready for their performances and it showed! Thank you to staff who helped the evening run smoothly, and thank you also to our many parents and staff who helped get our students ready for the big night.

It’s Here! Faculty Appreciation Week – March 25th-29th!

Online Course Offerings for Next Year’s

In order to offer our students more academic options, we have decided to partner with The Virtual High School to offer our Grade 11 & 12 students a wider range of online courses next year, especially AP® classes. We will host an informational meeting with students during homeroom time next week and an informational meeting with parents after Khmer New Year. To learn more about these online classes check out this informational slideshow.

A Note from Nurse

Influenza Video
As our season has changed from cool-dry to fluctuating humid/dry hot weather so do our frequent childhood illnesses. We are in the peak season for Influenza, which comes on suddenly, usually with high fever and upper respiratory symptoms. Please click here to find out more details family/flu-guide-for-parents-2018.pdf.
The Kingdom of Cambodia has also made a public announcement about Hand Foot and Mouth. Please review the CDC guidelines for Hand Foot and Mouth..
A friendly reminder of our Logos Medication Policy —

A student should wait to return to school until they have been fever-free for 24 hours, without temperature-reducing medication (Tylenol, paracetamol, or ibuprofen) OR the use of Icy Cooling Forehead patches. If antibiotics are required, then a child should not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours

  • In all grades, all medication taken at school must be given through the school nurse.
  • If an elementary student needs to take medication at school, the parent must hand the medication to the school nurse or to a Logos teacher (never given to the child or placed in child’s backpack to bring to school).
  • For all grades to be able to bring medication from home to take at school, a parent must fill out and sign a Medication Authorization Form AND all medication needs to be labeled with the medication name and dosage. It is preferred for medication to remain in the original packaging and have a visible expiration date.
  • Students may not carry any medication with them while at school unless prior arrangements with the school nurse have been made (e.g. asthma inhalers or Epi Pens, etc.)
  • First aid supplies and basic over-the-counter medications are always available at school and on school field trips. Medication is administered only with parental authorization for conditions such as fever, basic aches and pains, allergic reaction, etc.

Parents, thank you for partnering with me to help keep our campus healthy and thriving!
